Day 27 – GDT – Up Up Into the Alpine Tundra

August 1

The Crossing to Pinto Lake – 14.8 Banff National Park

Big day.

We trekked up and over the 3 passes, Owen Michele, and Pinto with over 5,500 feet of elevation gain. All with heavy packs full of 6 days of food.

This is the kind of country that speaks to me and just makes me smile inside.

Michele Pass is the highest point on the GDT. It really is spectacular. Meeting us at the top was a herd of mountain sheep. Now how cool is that reward?!?!?

After walking up in the alpine tundra, we decided to make it all the way down to Pinto Lake. Lofty goal. Especially when we rolled into the horse camp at 9:00 pm.

I think we are so tired we are delirious.

The lake is grand.

  1. I’m loving the wild raw beauty. What a team. Truly bad ass women showing how we can keep on living after menopause. 60 is the new 30!

  3. Gentle ladies of the trail; with six days of food and doing 5,500′ of elevation. Now that is amazing. I see the hard work pays off – you and Nancy are quite happy with your big smiles!

That picture of Nancy’s pack says it all – fully loaded for back country.
