Day 35 – GDT – Mud, Brush, & Smoke

Your body can do anything…it’s your brain you have to convince.

My bed is a magical place where I suddenly remember everything I forgot to do.

August 9

Jasper to below Centre Pass – 18.6

It is hard the first day out from a zero. The body doesn’t like having a pack full of heavy food on and moving forward is a struggle. Today was that. Plus…the trail was brushy, muddy, and sometimes non-existent.

Smoke and ash moved in during the afternoon. There are several fires in Canada where the smoke is coming from, but none of them are close to where we are hiking. Thank goodness.

On the other hand, our day started quite amazing. We hit the coffee shop, Coco’s at 6:30 am for hot coffee and breakfast. Then soon after got a great hitch to the trailhead out of Jasper with Norman. It was so fun talking to him about the trails in the area. He has lived in Jasper all his life. Thank you Norman!

Three more days and we are finished with the GDT. I am really ready to finish and return home. I miss my husband and family!

  1. I loved your trip. Like Marijka, I don’t want it to end.

I miss my husband and family!” Not that you don’t love your family, and I know you do, but I’ve never read this from you before as I know just how much you love being in the outdoors. I hope you have an amazing welcome home! And look forward to your next adventure, whatever it may be.

  3. What gorgeous scenery on this trip! And since I’m not the one doing all the work, let me be horribly selfish and say I wish it would never end… ;-0
