Day 23 – GDT – Beauty and the Bush

My decision stands, and I’m going to bed. ~ Kay Graham

July 28

Field to below Amiskwi Pass – 23.3 miles

This section of the GDT from Field to the Crossing is full of brush, downed trees, and 2 sketchy creek crossings where the bridges are washed out. It is an area that has not maintained in many years. I have heard horror stories and will be glad when it is over.

The trek today was on a very old abandoned dirt road with years of brush growing over it. The mountains and valleys are quite nice with gentle terrain and some views of dramatic peaks. I think people would like to visit if a clearing could be made.

Why Not and I decided to hike longer today and camp at the top of Amiskwi Pass. Good plan, bad idea.

The top was a beautiful marsh filled with wildflowers annnnnnndddddd mosquitoes. A bizzilon.

We are now camped below the pass on an old dirt road and very happy about it.

Tomorrow are the creek crossings.

We are off!

I just wonder how you find the trail in the midst of all the brush? Glad you are safe and heading toward your goal. Just keep posting the beautiful photos.
