Below Coulette Ridge to Castle Valley – 10.7 miles
This was an intense day.
Today we traversed Coulette Ridge that has 5 peaks along the route. This is the most difficult section on the entire Great Divide Trail.
Rain, thunder, and big wind started our day. Not safe and really not ideal conditions for climbing anything. I checked the weather forecast on my Inreach to double check we should climb. Why Not and decided to go ahead and try. The rain and thunder cleared up, but the wind grew fierce with large gusts.
A few times I was pretty alarmed with the strength of the wind and was afraid we would be blown down, picked up, or blown off the ridge.
The day ended up being epic, difficult, and so much fun. I think Why Not and I made a great team.
The energy you both have is amazing. I remember you telling a wind story years ago, when you were blown down or lifted up (can’t quite remember). Glad you made it up and over all those beautiful peaks.
The photos are just so beautiful. I can’t imagine your feelings of reaching those peaks and viewing that gorgeous setting.
Nicely done! That section is beautiful but so hard.
The “still” photos just can’t convey the wind, but boy’O boy, it sure is beautiful. Glad you both had such a great day in-spite of the wind.
The fierceness of the wind reminded me of your Great Outdoor Challenge. Thank God
weren’t tossed around like you and your hubsnd were. Congratulations in concurring the peaks and the better weather!!
Wow – absolutely beautiful. Glad you made the decision to “forge” ahead as it turned into a beautiful day!!
Sweet ridges, love the snow angel and the photo of the trail traverse. Thinking of you two!
