Day 19 – GDT – Hunger and Through the Burn

“A crude meal, no doubt, but the best of all sauces is hunger.” ~Edward Abbey

July 24

Egypt Lake Shelter to Floe Lake Kootenay National Park – 18.1

I am basically hungry all the time. In contrast, Why Not is like having to force feed herself. She came into this hike way under weight and is carrying a ton of food so she won’t loose weight. I, on the other hand have some baby fat that thankfully is coming off. Still…all I can think of is when I can eat again?!?!?!?!

In Banff I went shopping and bought: an umbrella (yellow), new sizes of shorts, sports bra, underwear, and trail tights. The shorts and tights are quick dry and should dry faster in the heat and humidity. I am very hopeful.

Boy howdy did we go for it today. After going over 2 passes and up and over logs through a 10 year old burn, we put our heads together and headed up 3,000 feet to Floe Lake. This was after 4:00 in the afternoon. The mosquitoes have finally found us. I actually had to break out my head net.

Tomorrow promises to be an incredible day walking through the popular Rockwall.

I’m so glad you can experience the beauty of Canada. My husband and I love Canada and think it is so beautiful, the lakes, mountains and rivers are just the hand of God as Creator.

  3. And another “wow, what great photos” comment!

From one gear junkie to another, hope your new cloths feel more comfortable to you.

  4. Brilliant photos (better than Why Not’s 🙂

Incredible pictures – there is even something beautiful about the burned over area with all the green coming up through it.

  8. Okay, that’s it. Here I am with a list of US trips, but your photos have just done me in! I don’t have the experience to tackle anything like this, but I’m going to start researching sections I could handle. This is just too gorgeous for words!
