This wintertime snowshoe leaves at the west end of Lone Pine Campground on a well-marked trail and travels through open desert then switchbacks up to the mouth of the canyon. From the canyon mouth travel is in forest and parallels the creek ending at the Mount Whitney Portal Fishing Pond. Along the way enjoy awesome views of Lone Pine Peak, Muir Peak, Mount Whitney, Owens Valley floor, Alabama Hills, and the Inyo/White Mountains to the east.
