March 31 – Trek from the Terminus

“I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find that I have lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.”-Diane Ackerman.

PCT – Southern terminus at the Mexican border to Lake Moreno Campground

Oh my gosh this day was incredible, diverse, and fun! It started off with a generous ride to the border from Sprinkles. The weather was cool and WINDLESS. Super rare. Today we experienced: snakes, poison oak, expansive views, elevation gain, border patrol, various discarded clothing left behind by undocumented immigrants, more wildflowers than I could count, cloud cover during part of the day, delicious homemade dehydrated spaghetti, a hot shower and warm shower. Oh and we also had fun hiding Easter eggs.

  1. I swear, the first day is one of the best on the whole trail! A translation of the last part of the sign is, “It’s not worth it!” Hilarious!

    • It’s not worth it! Well, I think it depends on who you are talking to. Really???? It IS very funny. BTW: the first day had the biggest variety of wildflowers of all the days and I was the sweatiest I have ever been in my life. It was very humid. Nice.
