Dorothy Lake to Ridge above Sonora Pass

Arrow and I decided to get a later start and stay in our tents longer because the night was really cold. It worked out great because Dorothy Lake is situated so it gets early morning sun. A real treat!
The trail most of the day was gentle with a big uphill at the end of the day. The environment changed dramatically to much drier and volcanic rock. Kennedy Canyon was filled with wildflowers and a fun creek.
We decided it would be fun to camp up on the ridge above Sonora Pass. It is a 10 mile section without water, so we left Kennedy Creek with water to dry camp. The packs were heavy once more.
The climb up was breathtaking with views back toward Yosemite, north to Sonora Pass, west to Emigrant Wilderness, and east of Kennedy Canyon. A new favorite. We have a great campsite with a view and protected from the wind. The colorful sunset was a great way to celebrate and end our last night. Tomorrow we will be hiking out, eating at the Whoa Nellie Deli, and meeting a group at Mammoth to mountain bike for a couple of days. Life is fun. 🙂
