One mile north of Hancock Lake to Cottonwood Pass Road
26 miles
Goal today: Hike 27 miles to trail magic by Michael and Sydney, father and son that are on a cross-country vacation. They contacted Wired through her blog and wanted to do trail magic. They brought Pringles, Oreos, grapes, bananas, and chocolate milk. I even made a great trade, a Subway sandwich for my dehydrated Chili and Fritos dinner. Thank you Michael and Sydney and also to Wired for making all the arrangements!
Just a few minutes after starting the day an ice chest full sodas was left on the side of the trail by Liv from Salida. Thank you Liv!
I hiked with Sycamore for the morning up an historic train route. The rest of the day was challenging (up 2 passes), amazingly beautiful, and on a very busy ATV road.
The afternoons continue to serve up thunderstorms, rain, hail, and snow. Makes for very dramatic photos. Silly Chili is one day behind us. Hoping he is safe and enjoying this beautiful country.

Thanks. Hard to go wrong with a group of thru-hikers!
Excellent post. Great photos. The photo of Erin and the bearded many isn’t Eric G. is it? My guess not since Sunshine isn’t there. Just thought I’d ask.
It was Sycamore a CDT thru-hiker Wired is standing next to.
Your wonderful photos remind me of Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Love that. Thank you for sharing! Just might use the verse as a post quote. Thank you.
More beautiful scenery !!! Am sending you a treat from Montana!
Can’t wait!!!!!
