Healthy Alternatives to Valentine’s Day Tradition
By Jill C. Wigand
Valentine’s Day is full of tradition—roses, fancy dinners, and kisses are just a few of the common characteristics of this beautiful holiday. But for us, it’s another occasion to step out of the box and surprise our sweetie (or treat ourselves) with a day full of adventure that we’ll remember and cherish forever.
Some ideas for a healthy, happy Valentine’s Day:
Take dogsledding, ice skating, nordic skiing, or rock/ice climbing lessons together.
Star gaze on a nighttime walk.
Take a simple, romantic drive to a new place and enjoy some fresh air out there.
Write a poem to your loved one about the adventure you are on while you are on it. Have them do the same for you.
Plan a short winter camping trip.
Go on a sunset run together.
Trade the traditional fine dining for a picnic basket full of heart-shaped and homemade goodies and enjoy your romantic meal in the quiet wilderness after a hike (or ski or ride) to a place you two have never been before. You can even bring along roses and champagne.
