BIG progress!!!!! 2 1/2 year old Sawyer not only started turning on his own, but also sent his first jump in the park. Plus he skied the intermediate runs Mambo and St. Moritz. Yaaaaay team!

We took advantage of spring soft off-piste conditions and dramatic skies skiing some new lines on ridges, glades and the steeps.

Our teamwork skills came into play with some pretty creative kid swapping. At 1 month old, it was Hyland’s first trip to Mammoth and 2 1/2 year old Sawyer was constantly on the move.

So much LOVE ❤️ and admiration for this bold 2 year old! Sawyer takes on the slopes with ease and curiosity navigating towards the jumps and features in the park. 😳

He loves to plan his route down choosing from @mammothmountain Discovery Lift’s runs: Apple Pie, Sesame Street and Disco Park.

Hey I have a NEW grandson!

Baby Hyland Reid joined our family and we couldn’t be more excited. Bryn, Chris, Sawyer and baby are all doing great.

This short and fast birth story will go down in the books. Baby was born swift and furious on the side of the freeway on the way to the hospital. Luckily, Chris was a quarterback in high school for the big catch. And I know what you are thinking. No they didn’t wait too long. It just happened quickly.

Man, I am still wrapping my head around the whole thing.

Happy happy LOVE DAY everyone! Back in the day when I taught elementary school, Valentine’s Day was my favorite holiday in the classroom. It was a full-on extravaganza focusing on kindness, giving, and friendship.  
❤️We read books on character building, overcoming hardship, and feel-good topics
❤️Wrote poems
❤️Performed skits
❤️Made handmade cards and wrote/illustated little books for family and friends
❤️Learned about the history of Valentine’s Day
❤️Drew and cut out hearts to study symmetry
❤️Ate a healthy treat or two

It was fabulous. Many of these traditions have filtered into my own children’s lives and how they currently honor this day.

I am lucky to be married to a good man. I would like to honor him today. Here are a few ways he makes me feel loved and important. He always gets most excited about what we can do together. He always makes me feel like his favorite place in the world is next to me. He pushes me to try new and scary things. He never makes me feel slow and always cheers me on. 👏🏻

Today @dbrosander and I not only found some sweet ski lines with soft lovely snow, we set a new personal record for vertical feet skied in a day, 34,138 feet.

❄️❄️ IT FINALLY SNOWED at home with enough coverage to get Sawyer out for his first day on REAL skis (with metal edges).🎿 It was a morning I will never forget.

@dbrosander and I were prepared for maybe a couple of runs and thought he would say, “All done” BUT to our surprise it was the opposite. He not only did he squeal with joy over and over, he said “Not all done” and “Do it myself” many times, and weirdly he hummed A LOT. We had to make him quit for lunch and nap 💤 time!

Two year old Sawyer’s progression from the beginning of the morning to lunch was a performance of grit, courage, and keen strategy. I couldn’t be prouder. Pretty cool what can be accomplished on just a couple of inches of fresh snow. “Get it until it is gone.”

Next week…watch out Discovery Lift @mammothmountain, Sawyer (The Skier Who Skis) is coming for ya.

WAY WAY WAY back in 2010 I started a blog and named it ladyonarock.com. I named the website after a solo lady hiker I met that was sitting on a rock just below Muir Pass in the high Sierra in 2009. Just finished a 5 day stint skiing with Dan, Michelle and Amber and now heading home. Skiing is a huge part of me that I cherish. The sport challenges my mind, spirit, body and continues to leave me humbled. But man oh man it sure is a FUN ride. 💫
