Day 8 SHR – Return & Rain

“If everything were pleasurable, you’d get bored and stop enjoying in the simple delights of life, such as being dry, warm, and comfortable.”
-Dr. Christiane Northrup

South Lake to Lower Dusy Basin – 10 miles

Boy did I sleep last night! No coughing at all.

I packed up this morning and changed up a bit of gear. The sun reflection off the snow is harsh and relentless, so I am changing up my shirt, pants, and hat. I dropped my ice axe and umbrella in hopes of lightening my load. It feels so good to have everything clean again!

I drove back to Bishop and met everyone including John who just finished a section of the High Route. He offered to give us a ride back to the trail head. Thank you John.

We all were dreading going up Bishop Pass in the heat with heavy backpacks. Lucky us! Clouds came just as we got to the trail head with cool air, then the rain started. We buzzed up the pass and hiked way past where we thought we would tonight.

We set up camp in the pouring rain without a complaint.

I am glad to be back.

      Geryrig,
Thank you. It is great to be feeling better, especially in the higher altitudes. Glad to have you along with us.

  4. Wahoo!! Camera is working. Gotta love that. And glad that you are happy to be back, sans coughing as well. I hope and pray you three have a great leg.

Ya the coughing thing at night was bad. I had to camp away from the group so they could get some sleep, 🙁
