Day 8 – GDT – Through the Deep Dark

“I’ve never been so tired, hungry, and dirty…and I’m having the time of my life!” ~Geolyn Carvin, Boots McFarland

Beehive Creek to Ridge Above Cataract Creek – 18.8 miles

One thing I have done on this trail is sweat a lot. It has been warm and humid walking through deep forest. I haven’t really had experience with these conditions and find myself daydreaming about all kinds of things to cope. Why Not has special skills and just goes with it. I want that skill.

The trail now is defined and well marked with orange blazes on trees. We mostly walked today in the deep kind of messy forest with occasional views. I like the open view part best.

First lake of the trip – air too cold to jump in 🙁

Hiking by headwaters if many creeks

My favorite is when we emerge from the forest

Ridge walking with wildflowers

Lost Creek flood damage area – that is a washed out bridge behind Why Not
