Who wouldn’t be a mountaineer! Up here all the world’s prizes seem nothing. – John Muir
North of Tahoe/Yosemite Junction to Echo Lakes – 18.9 miles
It was a thru-hikers dream.
Clouds filled the sky delighting the eye, as we traveled through Desolation Wilderness. One lake after another dotted the landscape. A photographer’s dream.
The weather has taken a turn and I took advantage, taking a few dips in stream and lake. I feel alive and invigorated.
As we walked, It was fun talking to PCT thrus. We saw 12 in all today. Wired took pics of each one and documented their story on her blog. She is a blogger on steroids. Wired in all her networking arranged to meet trail angel, Chandra and Freerange Amelia at Echo Lakes.
As we descended to Echo Lakes, Why Not and I schemed to convince Wired to stay at Echo Lake, preferably a place with a shower and bed. Boy did we get our wish and then some.
Freerange, a PCT 2011 thru-hiker offered to set us up with absolutely everything at an idyllic lodge in an awesome location. BUT the BIG treat was the gourmet appetizers, meal, drink, and dessert all prepared by Freerange’s aunt. We met new people, enjoyed community and serendipity. Thank you to all the fine folks that opened their hearts and lodge to 3 dirty, but very happy hikers.
Thank you everyone for following along and the encouraging comments. It brings me such joy to hear and read. AND thank you for hanging in there with me for replying after I get off trail.
That looked like ice on that log crossing! Yikes. I’m right with Wired on that one! Amazing photos! Wow! Thank you for sharing! Can’t wait to get out there again!
I just took a closer look, not ice, but still! I tend to get a little nervous myself.
Thanks for sharing. Doing the portion of the TYT from Meeks Bay to Echo and I was wondering about the snow at Dicks Pass. Can’t wait!
Only halfway through your posts and it looks like trail and company were perfect! Beautiful pics and thanks so much for sharing your hikes!
I’m speechless at how beautiful the photographs are! I wish I were with you all!
Ok, I’m officially jealous… How awesome to see such a fantastic group of women out hiking such beautiful country. Wish I’d been with you. You go girls!!!
Your photography is divine! I found you through Wired’s blog. I especially like that photo of her paying attention to her electronics instead of that incredible vista!
Wired is one of a kind. She can multi-task on her phone like lightening. She is the master net-worker, all while on a backpack. Amazing really.
Stunning pictures!!!!
Thank you. It is one beautiful wilderness. The lighting and clouds were breathtaking.
What a day! I love the rays of the sun how they shine down. Looks like God is descending to meet you. And the cabin sure looks a little like Shangri la!
You noticed! I love that you see detail and meaning in my photos.
Absolutely Fantastic Pictures!!!!!!!!!
It is so fun taking and posting them. THANK YOU!
Now I don’t feel so bad-I occasionally do a log crossing like Wired!
Teresa, Don’t we all have our strategies to get through the rough patches. Wired’s has worked over many a log crossing. 🙂
