Day 31 – GDT – Five Pass Day

Just get r’ done. ~Rockin’

August 5

Maligne Pass to below 6th Pass on 6 Pass Alternate – 13.3 cross-country miles (Jasper National Park)

After a ton of tent and sleep time yesterday, I feel strong and refreshed and ready to take on the next challenging section.

If you have followed me for long, you know I am a big fan of hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A couple of years ago, Why Not, Wired, and I hiked Steve Roper’s Sierra High Route.

Today felt very much like that. Going up and over wild passes with no trail, but staying in the high country. There is a big difference though, the land feels virtually untouched by man. It was glorious.

We set a goal of finishing 5 passes before the end of the day and we did it.

Tomorrow this alternate continues with another pass and 3 peak climbs.

Early morning up to the first Pass

    Green!!!

    Just beautiful. Looks so tempting.

  8. Oh that DOES sound glorious! I loved Ropers High Route too and I love off trail in general!!! Your photos are beautiful. I managed to sneak away from work for a few days and hike ( on trail) in the Wallowa Mtns in Oregon. Not as wild as the Canadian Rockies but gorgeous and surprisingly few people. All good!
    Walk On!

  9. Beautiful…absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
