The Road goes ever on and on; Down from the door where it began;
Now far ahead the Road has gone; And I must follow, if I can;
Pursuing it with eager feet; Until it joins some larger way;
Where many paths and errands met; And whither then? I cannot say.

Drochaid na Luib Bridge (northeast of Cougie) to Fort Augustus (Loch Ness)
Our morning trek led through some of the most majestic, diverse, and peaceful forests I have ever experienced. We took a side trip to Plodda Falls. It was dramatic and made my stomach flip once again.
As our trip has progressed, I have so many questions about the natural surroundings. Yesterday, the water in the streams and springs turned amber brown. Today we found out that is harmless and is from peat that is everywhere naturally.
After our morning shot of beauty, we hiked through miles of peat covered hills under newly constructed power lines. Not pretty, but the dirt road was clean and easy to hike.
We cruised into Fort Augustus on the Old Military Road that was constructed during the1700’s. How cool is that?
The Loch Ness area is green with interesting buildings. We are staying at Straivangers Hostel where we have met many challengers. The biggest treat was meeting Humphrey Weightman, who helped out immensely in planning our TGO route. We have all just finished eating a divine dinner at The Loch Inn.
Fresh air..Mists..Rain..Wind….A perfect trek in Scotland ! I believe I read that you teach…if so how are they enjoying your blogs ?
Hello Brian,
Great question. Yes I do! It was fun to share this adventure with my students, colleagues, and parents through this blog. That is part of the reason I try to post quite a few photos for visuals.
My, pictures are terrific. Makes me really wish I could be there.
Another full-N-faithful post. But I do agree, power lines do s*ck. Can’t believe you will be doing this challenge and then finishing the PCT later in the year! I guess your legs ARE made for walkin’!
‘Roman Times’ had completely ended by the second sack of Rome in the year 455 AD.
It is simply amazing what I can write after a long day in a tent! So glad for the catch.
