My Heart was made to…HIKE.

Mile 151.5 to Gila River – Resupply in Kearny
11.3 Miles
It started to snow at 4:30 am just as Ranger John had reported it would the night before. It felt like my adventure was now beginning. Bring it on.
It was beautiful walking early morning in a desert storm sporting all kinds of very attractive rain gear. I met a few hikers along my short hike today. A very courageous girl had a tarp last night that did not do well in the storm. She shared a video of her tarp filled with snow. Her strategy was to get up and start walking in the dark because she was so cold. Brave lady.
Everything went perfectly today. I got to the Gila River Trailhead, called for a ride to the town of Kearny, 7 miles away. Becky, the owner of the Kearny Inn picked me up in minutes. My resupply box even arrived today, great timing. I am showered and resupplied. Becky is even giving me a ride back to the trail, EARLY!

Christy – Wonderful photos of the desert with rain. Looks like you are having a beautiful trip in a lovely and wild place. Enjoy every step!
I think you are made to hike. Whatever the weather/conditions, you just chew it up. Glad you are having fun in it now.
Nice! Best time to cross the desert, when it’s cold and fresh. Are campfires allowed in any of those areas?
I am not sure, but I see lots of fire rings. So much burn devastation, I think it would be brave to have a campfire.
I can imagine the fresh desert air. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Looks great. Those early-morning desert walks in the crisp, clear, cold air must be great. Found your blog only recently and glad to get your updates.
Sometimes it is hard to get out of a warm sleeping bag before light, but so worth it!
Beeeeautiful region. I think I’m more attracted to the deserts now since the woods are so crowded. Thanks for posting!
You are such an inspiration! I am a 60 yr lady planning to solo SOBO in Sept. This will be my first solo so I will be following every one of your posts as a way to build confidence. I admire you for your strength and perseverance. Hike on!
