Sometimes it is best to rest. ~Rockin’ and Why Not
August 4
Above Waterfall Campground to Maligne Pass – 10.2 miles plus a long nap and horizontal time
Sleep really didn’t happen.
We packed up our wet gear and headed out. With clouds in the sky and cold temps, I was concerned I couldn’t get my gear dried out today. At an early lunch, we saw a dryer spot and a bit of wind and our gear actually dried out nicely.
Our next section of route is the 22 miles Six Pass cross- country alternate. It is a lot of elevation gain and loss with navigation.
Rain began to fall right at the spot to start the route. We sat down and both admitted we were exhausted and had no business going even higher up over the first few passes. Jointly, we decided to stop for the day, warm up in our tents and start tomorrow.
I checked the weather report on my InReach and the weather is really improving tomorrow with great forecasts the next few days.
What a amazing luxury to have some time to rest while on trail. I think it is pretty good.
I just need to leave my food bag alone and not eat everything in it!
Dropped them off at Decoine to start there trip up to the headwaters of the Miette River this morning.
Very remote country and a sketchy trail at best.
Incredibly skilled hikers, a pleasure to have met them
I’m inspired.
Such a good idea to stop and rest. It was a beautiful spot, too.
Congrats to you both on the executive decision to rest!
Just wonderful! Hey, what’s that umbrella – doesn’t look like your usual chrome. How lucky to see a beautiful pair of spruce grouse!
So glad you had some time to relax. Always beautiful views to take in while resting.
Thanks so much for this blog. I am enjoying the heck out of it and wish I was there!
