Every day we get to wake up in a new place, stumble across new things, hop over rattlesnakes, dodge poison oak, meander through ice caves, unwillingly feed skunks, get stalked by mountain lions, befriend 10 million deer, climb over mountains, bathe in streams, eat copious amounts of sour patch kids, and absolutely destroy our bodies until finally, as the sun goes down, we call it a day and crawl into camp. All for the small price of going for a walk. I rarely remember the days I sat on the couch and binge watched Netflix all day. Go explore your backyard!

GEAR OF THE DAY
Ziplock Plastic Screw Top Container
I first was turned on to these magic little containers by Kit and Jacob. They are perfect for mixing a shake, eating food out of, soaking cold food to eat later, a cozy for freezer bag cooking (what I do), and a mug for drinking cold or hot coffee. They are durable, easy to clean, can be purchased in a 3 pack inexpensively at a grocery store. I use the 16 ounce size.
Christy, why did you move from the skyscape to the soloplex?
Hello Kristin,
Great question! My son needed a solo tent, so I gave him my Skyscape tent. I have owned the Zpacks Duplex for a couple of years and loved the tent, so I thought I would try the single version, the Solplex. I like both tents equally. They both weigh the same, have about the same room, are cuben fiber, and are storm worthy.
Great lead-in photo. I see that Nancy uses the Topo Athletic Runventure shoe. I have a pair of the MT model that are pretty much done now and really want to try the Runventure. I guess I’ll have to ask her how she likes them.
And I’d like to have a Solplex too! I have a few tents but none as specialized. This would help me to drop a bit of my base weight and that is always a good thing.
Have fun and be safe!
Why Not liked the Topos, but not sure about how grippy they were. Yea, equipment can drive you crazy. The main thing is we are getting out there and enjoying the outdoors.
What brand are your new shoes? .. love your dirty girl gators and your ZPack tents.. Love your adventure!!
LeAnn,
Hey thanks!
Trail shoes – La Sportiva Bushido (both Wired and I used these with success)
My feet were happy the whole summer through mud, snow, ice, dirt, and rock. One pair lasted the entire Sierra High Route. That is really good considering the route. The dirty girls also work in all conditions. Love them.
All 3 of us had the same tent. The solplex is the best.
Yummy. What is your favourite fbc meal?
Glad you asked! The meal I look forward to the most is spaghetti that I dehydrate at home. Here is the recipe:

Exceptions: I now use Vitacost rice noodles and don’t take parmesan cheese packets.
I make a huge batch for about 8 to 10 meals, seal them up in quart size freezer bags, and store them in the freezer ready to go for my next trip.
Double yum. Thanks for sharing!
Ooooohh . . .You gals are having a great time! I’m envious 🙂
p.s. want one of those tents!
Christmas is coming up!!!!!!
