Arizona Trail Day 9 – Glorious Rain & That’s a Wrap (I’ll be back for ya)

When going back makes sense, you are going ahead. ~ Wendell berry

April 6

Rincon Wilderness to Catalina Hwy, then hitch to Tuscon – 15.2 miles – AZT mile 161.6

Arizona Trail – Rain pattered on our tents last night. I would have slept well, but sharp pains in my right ankle kept me awake and scared me. ⠀

As the day progressed, I realized something was really wrong and made the decision to go out to Tucson from Catalina Hwy., go home and get help. ⠀

Bummer… but I am all about the long run and don’t want to jeopardize future adventures. ⠀

Tour Guide was super sweet and supportive. She is so experienced with health and injuries. I learned so much!⠀

At the Hwy. I got a ride from Cheeks and her friend, a PCT hiker to the Safeway in Tucson, booked a room and a flight home. ⠀

It was a fun way to end this little hiccup in the road of thru-hiking!

Thank you readers for your support, encouragement, and following along on another adventure. You all rock.

Rockin, sorry about your injury. Better to interupt hiking and check& ban the reason immediately to ensure soonest return to the hike. All the best for recovery.
Your fascinating blog is pushing me since years to at least one long hike per year here in Europe.
Thanks a lot that you let me share your adventures. Keep rockin’!

Thanks for having the courage and common sense to bail. Trails don’t go anywhere and there’s always next year, but you only have one body.
