BEAUTY 10/10 (According to ME!)
FUN FACTS (more info the better) – Mount Conness is the highest peak in Sierra Nevada north of Tioga Pass Road (Highway 120). It has the second largest glacier in Yosemite, Conness Glacier.
After getting great advice from the Ranger Station in Mammoth the day before our day hike and armed with a great USGS map, we left for this hike at 7:30 AM from Sawmill Campground. This cool trip included glacier travel, class 3 climbing, loose talus, route finding, DEET bug spray, and glissading on snow. The highlight of the trip was maneuvering the interesting ledge system on the way to the summit block (not for souls nervous of heights) and who couldn’t resist glissading on the descent down.
We finished the day with dinner at Tioga Toomey’s Whoa Nellie Deli at the Mobil Station, an experience all must try!
It doesn’t get better than this.
