Hello There, Welcome!

I’m Christy Rosander (trail name Rockin’). Thank you for stopping by. I am fortunate to live in Tehachapi, California, the gateway to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with my husband, Dan. I’ve been married for 34 years and have three adult children and three grandchildren.

The Southern Sierra Mountain Range is my backyard playground and where my trail name Rockin’ originated – a testament to my enthusiasm for climbing big rocks and peaks. As an elementary school teacher for 20 years, I took advantage of my breaks to hike extensively with family and friends, or on my own. I love hiking in remote and wild places.

I am committed to staying healthy and fit, and having fun. With enough determination and skill, age really has no limits. A positive attitude, good planning, a bit of spunk, and lightweight gear are a few of the keys to longevity in this sport.

Doing scary things helps you grow. The magic happens outside your comfort zone!

My Experience

In addition to backpacking and hiking, I alpine and backcountry ski, mountain and road bike, rock climb, and paddle board. I have climbed many peaks including many of California’s fourteen thousand foot peaks and backpacked countless trails and routes.

My most notable trips include:

I have been featured in multiple magazines, blogs, newspapers, and have received many top adventure blog awards.

Lady on a Rock Website

Lady on a Rock website started in 2010, publishing resources for hiking, health, and all sorts of adventures. This website is named after a woman I met briefly while hiking over Muir Pass in California’s Sierras in 2009. The lady hiker was resting on a rock. I stopped to talk with her a bit. She told me she was a retired stewardess from Chicago and had been hiking Pacific Crest Trail a section at a time for a few years to complete the entire trail and she was SOLO. She even said that her family joked that if she dies before she completed the entire trail, they will have to carry her ashes to finish. In just a few minutes of conversation, THIS Lady on a Rock gave me the courage and inspiration that I too could hike solo. The project of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail one section at a time and this website was born.

Lady on a Rock website has been featured in multiple magazines, blogs, newspapers, and have received many top adventure blog awards.

Going Light

I am always on a quest for lighter, safer, and more efficient gear motivated by a desire to stay healthy and active for many years to come. After being part of this sport for over 30 years, I continue to learn, test and refine gear, and dream of the next adventure.
