Maligne Pass to below 6th Pass on 6 Pass Alternate – 13.3 cross-country miles (Jasper National Park)
After a ton of tent and sleep time yesterday, I feel strong and refreshed and ready to take on the next challenging section.
If you have followed me for long, you know I am a big fan of hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A couple of years ago, Why Not, Wired, and I hiked Steve Roper’s Sierra High Route.
Today felt very much like that. Going up and over wild passes with no trail, but staying in the high country. There is a big difference though, the land feels virtually untouched by man. It was glorious.
We set a goal of finishing 5 passes before the end of the day and we did it.
Tomorrow this alternate continues with another pass and 3 peak climbs.
Reading your blog and seeing your beautiful photos make me feel like breathing deeply of the mountain air. So peaceful and serene. Thank you so much Christy!
Absolutely beautiful- the grove of little trees looks out of place!! Would love to be along with you but can hear myself huffin’ and puffin’ so will travel vicariously with you!!

Oh that DOES sound glorious! I loved Ropers High Route too and I love off trail in general!!! Your photos are beautiful. I managed to sneak away from work for a few days and hike ( on trail) in the Wallowa Mtns in Oregon. Not as wild as the Canadian Rockies but gorgeous and surprisingly few people. All good!
