Day 4 SHR – Rockin’ Frozen Lake Pass

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out, it’s the pebble in your shoe.”~Muhammad Ali

June 24
Marion Lake to Upper Palisade Lake

Lakes Basin * Frozen Lake Pass * Upper Basin * Mather Pass

Frozen Lake Pass is one of the hardest passes of the High Route. It is steep, rocky, snowy, and is downright intimidating. We took it face on today with strength, concentration, and bravery.

We did have one little glitch. All of us agreed that we were temporarily misplaced initially locating the pass and I was the one that said for safety purposes, “Wired check our location on the GPS.” She of course was more than happy to. Other than that we are GPS free.

So bad news, my camera stopped working. I really missed taking photos today. It really is a big part of my outdoor experience. My iPhone pics are just not the same. Now my ears are plugged all the time in addition to coughing and hoarse voice. So stupid.

For pics until our next resupply, check out Wired and Why Not’s blogs.

  1. Broken camera, nooo!! Generally worn out? Or specific trauma?

My LX5 died when I took it for the quickest of swims near the end of the Hayduke this spring. The last 7 days of the trip I don’t have photos, except the ones I made DnR and Pinup take on their cameras. I was so sad, and also constantly annoyed because I kept reaching for the camera out of habit. There were times though, when I noticed I was appreciating *really* looking at and experiencing my surroundings, rather than looking for the best shot. I certainly don’t plan to be intentionally cameraless in the future, because I love taking photos too.

Anyway, I empathize. And you rock.

  2. OK, I very much concur with what both Melissa and Lynda said. Glad you three are meeting the challenge. Admiration all ’round.

  3. I totally concur with what Melissa said! Praying for your trio : )

Thank you Lynda for your prayers,
I have said many prayers on this trip in sketchy terrain. It is working.

  4. Such a challenging and motivating activity! Fantastic.

  5. Let me tell you, I hope you get fixed up on the antibiotics. They need your spirit, and your smiles! And your lessons! I love your pictures, but Wired has high praise for you, and the two of you together make me not just want to be out there, but to hang out with you! Someday, I hope we can cross paths, as you inspire me greatly. Here’s to getting your camera and your body fixed! Thanks for sharing the world with us!

      Melissa,
Boy that would be cool to see you on the trail! Thank you for your encouragement, comments, and positive thoughts. You rock.
