Day 1 Hayduke – Salt Creek Water Walk – Canyonlands National Park

Drop n’ Roll and Salt Creek

A long walk is nothing more than a series of short walks. ~(Ibid)compliments of Hamburger Helper

March 20
Needles Outpost/Canyonlands National Park cross-country up Salt Creek to campsite 4 – 16.3 miles

Oh baby it was cold last night. Serious, deep cold. Packing up was super interesting with feet and hands not exactly working up to their usual speed.

Our route today followed Salt Creek with countless shallow water crossings. It was great just to be out walking putting one foot in front of the other, with all I physically need on my back.

It was a joy to talk and laugh with Drop n’ Roll and Bubs today. Bubs has quite a few serious blisters on the bottom of her feet. Pain and feet are so crazy hard to handle. She is very tough.

Tonight we are camped at a designated camp. I have prepared my tent, gear, and body for freezing temps.

      Sharon,
I am always so thankful when readers enjoy the photos! Thank you for commenting.

  2. Beautiful. I love red rock. Hopefully the increase in water will make it easier for you to carry lighter loads.

I am never going to be happy carrying the weight of water. Everyone else seems to just suck it up and do it. I always feel like the pack weights more than me and swings my around.

For this trip I left a few things behind that I usually carry in anticipation of the water carries.

Camp shoes…ground sheet…pot cozy lots of things I love.

      • Ya, I guess my quick sentence wasn’t so good. I was just hoping since it had been wetter this winter that you’d have to carry much less water. I am also not happy carrying water but then I’m always in the Sierra’s. Not near as adventurous or skilled as you.

  3. It looks like a lot more water this year than last…

There wasn’t a trail, old 4WD road or anything. Perhaps a flash flood came through this year and wiped it all away. I think the Peek-a-boo trail would have been a better option. This was a lot of bushwhacking and walking through yucky slimy creek. There were rats and mice in the designated camping. Yuck.
