Anish Sets Speed Record on AT

Tehachapi Gran Fondo (1)Congratulations Anish!

On September 24, 2015, Heather “Anish” Anderson set the new speed record for a self-supported thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, becoming the first person ever to simultaneously hold the record for both the AT and PCT.

Last February, I had the pleasure of meeting and hiking a bit with Anish at a Gossamer Gear gathering in Moab, Utah. I found her one of the most humble, hard-core, and driven athletes I have ever met Her bright eyes and beautiful smile are inspiring for anyone she meets.

There are many articles out there documenting her amazing record:  the stats, the story, her struggles and triumphs. Here are a few of my very favorites:

  1. She hiked so late and left camp so early the other hikers on the PCT started calling her Ghost. They would hear about her but not see her.

Anish told me a couple stories about the animals she saw late at night walking toward her on trail. Hiking in the deep woods late at night would be very spooky. I sure can see how Ghost would be an accurate name.

  2. Pretty amazing. The Ted talk was pretty good.
