July 24 PCT – Let it Rain!

For you shall go out with joy, be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.  — Isaiah 55:12

Pumice Creek to Vista Creek – 19.4 miles

Elevation gain and loss: 6,391 feet gain and 7,722 feet loss

We were mentally prepared for a challenging day given the extreme up, down, up, and down elevation numbers.

It started out a blue bird day, but quickly deteriorated into constant rain. This was actually a huge blessing,  because I was concerned about the possible heat making the climbs very unpleasant.

This all sounds great until you take into consideration that the trail through Glacier Peak Wilderness needs trail maintenance big time.

The trail in this section is overgrown, littered with fallen logs, and has small sections of washed out trail all from severe storms and run off a few years ago.

As a result, we experienced miles of shoulder high very wet from rain, vegetation to maneuver through. Needless to say we were drenched like we just got out of a shower.

Strategy of the day – Motor the miles and get to camp early to dry out. It worked.

Tomorrow, we have a very similar day of lots of ups and downs. I am very excited that we just might be camping with Dan and Trent tomorrow night! They are hiking south from Rainy Pass to meet us.

My camera was stowed safely in my pack most of the day, so just a few highlights from the day.
