July 30 – Parting of the Waters

All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Deep forest to Parting of the Waters
25 miles

Early morning we packed up our wet gear and headed to a short side route to the South Fork Falls on the South Fork Buffalo River. The falls are dramatic and set in a deep gorge. Shortly after leaving the falls we saw our first CDT Southbounder hiking from Canada to Mexico. There are 40 or so hikers that started around the middle of June. Today we saw Simon, Travis, and Huck.

I was thankful for the Horse Highway today. A large part of the trail passes through a recent burn area. The downed trees were cut and cleared.

Everyone was excited to get to our final destination for the day, The Parting of the Waters. It is where Two Oceans Creek splits, one side going to the Atlantic Ocean and the other heading to the Pacific Ocean. It was really cool. 20130802-211926.jpg
