June 27 – Two 14ers – One Day

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour.

Chiquawa Gulch to Herman Gulch
20 miles

I left early to get a head start. Good intentions, but not the outcome I expected. I took the official CDT route up to Grays Peak. What I didn’t know is Silly Chili and the rest of our hiking partners decided to take a more direct route. The route I hiked was longer and followed a ridge that had some nice climbing opportunities. It was fun and challenging. I met everyone at the top of 14er Gray’s Peak. It was warm, still, and gorgeous! To climb the second 14er Torrey Peak, we descended to the ridge between the two peaks, then climbed Torrey. It was so much fun to share friendship and humor with other hikers.
