Thank You Halfmile and Friends

A few weeks ago I had the major honor to give the famous Halfmile and Deb a ride to the Tehachapi PCT trail head at Highway 58. In this brief moment in time I was able to visit with this very humble man. You see he is the machine behind the free website PCT Map where you can download maps, GPS tracks and way-points, and get the latest info on the trail. In addition, he has just released a free iPhone app that works seamlessly with his printed maps, Halfmile PCT. His maps are LOADED with a plethora of information: water sources, camping, PCT mile, detours, cautions, elevations, and resupply info. In fact it seems every time I use his maps I find something new that is very useful. This year I have come to LOVE his Elevation Profiles that can be found at the end of each map section. FYI: If you love and use his maps there is a donation button is on the right sidebar on his website.

Deb and Halfmile

A couple of weeks ago Halfmile sent Moose and Peru our way. You see Peru is carrying a GPS and lots of batteries to record the most up-to-date PCT GPS track for 2013 hikers. Peru is also noting trail updates such as: camping and route details. She has a HUGE job, not to mention the extra weight of the GPS and batteries she is carrying . THANK YOU, THANK YOU Peru for your dedication and love of the trail!

It was fun getting to know Moose and Peru during their short stay at our home. While here, Peru was able to download GPS info and send it on to Halfmile. They are fast hikers that love the thru-hiker lifestyle. They most likely are now through the Sierras and on their way to Tahoe. So fun. You can follow Moose on his online trail journal at Thru-Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with MeanderMoose. We wish these hikers the very best and a safe journey.

  1. Such fascinating people to hear about. People I never would have known about had I not been privileged to have a daughter-in-law with such a passion for the PCT and its hikers. Thanks for expanding my world.

    • It IS amazing to get to know these hikers. Everyone is so different and on the trail for different reasons. It is nice just to gain awareness and I am always in awe of the generosity of mankind.
