Lake Arrowhead Snowshoe

Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.
~Robert Frost

Last weekend the mountains of California received another big dump of snow. We headed south to Lake Arrowhead, a private lake in the San Bernadino Mountain Range for some snowshoeing and to visit our daughter who was attending the LA Modern Quilt Guild retreat. The drive up was pretty hairy due to 2 feet of new snow and unploughed roads.

Our accommodation at the luxurious and historic  UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center and Mountain Resort was fancy and amazing. This area is impacted with mansions and boat docks that literally line the perimeter of this large lake. During the summer I imagine this area is packed with people and is extremely noisy, but very beautiful. Our experience this winter weekend was VERY different.

Early morning we broke trail on snowshoes to hike the Arrowhead Lake Association (ALA) Trail that lines the lake. Surrounded by crystal clear blue skies, sparkling snow, stunning ice, no people, uninhabited homes and docks, and just the sound of snowshoes crunching on fresh snow and the inhaling and exhaling of breath… it was just the best.

Sewing Sweet New Gear… Perhaps?

Perhaps the best and sweetest surprise was the chance to meet and experience this amazing, extremely fun, educated and talented group of passionate quilters, knitters, artists, and designers. It was a rare treat. THANK YOU.
