Post a Week for 2011

“Being still and doing nothing are two different things”

Looking back at 2010

Have I mentioned before that this is one of my favorite times of the year? The holidays are over, cold and snow are settling in, and for some school and work is taking a break from important deadlines. It is a time to take a breath, look at what is important, make some lifestyle readjustments if necessary, or just… to be still.

I am not big on New Year’s Resolutions, but I do love to look back on the year for highlights, things that you certainly don’t want to repeat, and accomplishments. I then like to focus on what worked to make future goals. Kind of ensures hope, fun, and encouragement, don’t you think?

One thing that was particularly out of the box for me this last year was starting this hiking blog (with the heavy encouragement from my daughter). So, I’ve decided to join the WordPress community of other bloggers with similar goals, to commit to the program “Post a Week for all of 2011”. That means I hope to be posting on this blog once a week for all of 2011.

If you already read my blog, I hope you’ll encourage me with comments and likes, and good will along the way.

So…what was a highlight in 2010 you were proud of? Please share.

  1. I, too, like the “be still” part. The trouble is, at my age, it is very often still. Sometimes too much time to think. I believe the things that I am the most proud of are the new tasks and challenges I have taken on since I retired and have done a good job at them, namely learning to play the clarinet and quilting. Having finished my first king size quilt and having the president of the Quilting Guild tell me it was “just beautiful” helped me realize that just because one retires doesn’t have to mean you stop doing or learning. Now my challenge is to keep reading your blog so I will be encouraged to get outside and move this old body!

  2. Well done Rockin! Good plan.

Look forward to reading about your adventures (and other pearls of wisdom!)

  3. Hmm…not sure of my best accomplishment but one of yours is the blog. Great post!

  4. AMEN sister!!!! I could not agree with you more on the need to “be still” this time of year. I’m not saying that I have relaxed enough however, with my sleeping in till 11:30 everyday, or my obsessive reading in my warm comfy bed… ALL day… EVERYDAY. Hehe just kidding. But congratulations mom on creating this fabulous blog where you can share your passions with whomever will listen and appreciate all your awesome craziness =) I love you dearly and can’t wait to conquer 2011 with you and all that it brings!
    Keep on rockin’!!!

    • Hey I am liking the “be still” thing also! 🙂 So…what was the most important thing you accomplished in 2010? Do tell.

    • Haha =) well I don’t think I can just choose one accomplishment but the first and foremost was that I survived and graduated high school!! WOOT WOOT! Then of course I made it through my first semester of college with so much happiness I can hardly stand it!! And I’ve made so many new friends and earned many scholarships. Haha… That should be good!
      Love you
