June 13 – Life of a thru-hiker

It is okay to talk to yourself as long as you don’t talk back
~ D. Downs

9.6 miles north of Golden Oak to second Piute Canyon Road
19 miles

Randomly today as I was walking through the Piute Mtn. Range I found myself talking, yep yep, no one else was in sight. I DID see 2 gentlemen at the end of the day.

The Piutes are gentle mountains teaming with wildlife and forest chatter. I am camped at an awesome spot overlooking Olancha Peak and am trying not to eat all my food!!!

Today was a true thru-hiker schedule at least I think:
-on the trail at 5:30
-10 miles in by 9:00
-take a nap in the afternoon
-stop and cook dinner at 5:00
-finish hiking a few miles in the evening
-camp 5 feet off the trail at the first available flat spot
This is the life!

Gear and food favs:
Topo map app for the i Phone – I will give a full report later.
Jelly Belly Extreme Sport Beans – I just love the Cherry flavor and like to down a package in the early afternoon with A LOT of water for a big energy boost (yep it has caffeine)

Enjoying you tale from Australia. Keep safe.

  3. It’s OK to talk to yourself, it’s when you answer your questions that you need to worry.

Looks like the weather is going to hold for you and you have running water to work with.

  4. So glad to hear all is well. You go girl.
